No cost to get in, you just have to register as a bidder.
Please come and invest in our FFA students!
Buyers Lunch (free for registered buyers) starts at 11:00a and the Auction starts at 1:00p.
What does it mean to “buy an animal”? Buying an animal doesn’t mean that you take an animal home. Katy ISD Livestock show is a terminal show, so when you buy an animal you pay the price for the animal (either auction price or barn price) and an additional amount to process the meat from the animal, if you decide to keep the meat for yourself.
You have the following options when it comes to the meat:
· Keep the meat for yourself
· Make a tax-deductible donation
o Donate the funds from the sale of the meat to the FFA chapter
o Donate the funds from the sale of the meat to a local charity.
What is the auction? This is a live auction where animals are bid on for sale. Remember, you are investing in the kids and their hard work, not the ‘value’ of the animal.
What is the “barn sale”? Think of this like Wal-Mart or Target for animals. Every animal costs the same (see table below) no matter the size.
Sale and Add-On Information
KISD does not guarantee a buyer in either sale. If projects are not sold by the close of the barn sale, remaining steers, swine, goats, and lambs will be sold for market value to a livestock commission company. Remaining rabbits and broilers will have no market value; hence they will receive no market price.
The barn sale will begin at 7:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 (please come!) and will conclude one (1) hour after the Auction is completed. Barn sale prices will be set at the following for the 2020 Show and Sale:
Steers - $2000
Lambs - $375
Goats - $375
Swine - $400
Rabbit - $100
Broilers - $100
The Grand Champion price will set the sale cap for each species. The Reserve Champion and each subsequent lot of that species may sell for a maximum of $1 less than the Grand Champion. These limitations will pertain to auction prices only, not addons.
What is an add-on? An add-on is your opportunity to make a donation direct to an animal raiser. This is a good way for family and friends to reward the student for their hard work or for businesses to thank their customers. Add-ons can be in any amount from $5 and up.
Phone in add-ons will be taken January 16 – February 8, 2020. To place your Add-On over the phone, call 281-396-2340.
