The Friends of the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site will host their annual meeting at the new museum on Monday, September 23rd, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Following the announcement and installation of the board of directors and officers, the Friends will share a short program about the developing outdoor exhibits that are planned for the museum – including the construction of representative structures to show what life was like in the town before Texas independence. In addition, as part of the evening’s program, the historic site will launch a “History at Night” program series to run from September through June – offering a monthly evening program and tours of the museum. The initial program, offered as part of this Friends meeting, will feature Richmond-based author, Tim Cumings talking about his historical novel, A Splendid Country, that focuses on the real-life relationship between Alamo commander William B. Travis and his romantic interest – Rebecca Cumings (Tim is descended from the Cumings that settled along Mill Creek in Stephen F. Austin’s Colony).
