CITY OF KATY (Covering Katy News) – Dr. Terrence O. Moore will be the headmaster of Aristoi Classical Academy, a K-12 public charter school in the City of Katy.
“We are delighted that Dr. Moore has decided to join us at Aristoi Classical Academy,” said school board president, Lucina Botond. “His experience in developing and guiding successful classical charter schools is second to none. He’s passionate about offering an extraordinary education to as many students as possible, which is a sentiment that the Aristoi leadership shares.”
Dr. Moore has been the founding principal of three other classical schools and was the architect of the Barney Charter School Initiative at Hillsdale College.
A native of Texas, Dr. Moore earned a B.A. in history from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Edinburgh. He also served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1990-1993.
Dr. Moore taught at Ashland University in Ohio for two years.
For seven years he was the founding principal of Ridgeview Classical Schools in Fort Collins, Colorado, whose high school during his time there was twice ranked the number- one public high school in the state and also ranked fourth in the nation for open- enrollment schools, according to U.S. News and World Report.
From 2008-2014 Dr. Moore was a professor of history at Hillsdale College and helped to launch the Barney Charter School Initiative, which assists in the founding of classical charter schools across the country. At Hillsdale, Dr. Moore taught Western Heritage, American Heritage, The Enlightenment, and The Nature and History of Manhood. He also received the Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence. From 2014 to 2017 he was the founding principal of Atlanta Classical Academy and in 2018-19 the founding principal of Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County, Colorado.
Dr. Moore has written frequently on school reform and other cultural and political topics, his most popular article being “Wimps and Barbarians” in the Claremont Review of Books. He has also written articles, editorials, and book reviews for The Claremont Review, The Washington Times, HumanEvents.com, Big Government, Townhall.com, Touchstone, The Family in America, and The Wall Street Journal.
He is the author ofThe Perfect Game, a novel about boys growing up in Texas during the Eighties.
In 2013 and 2014, he was one of the leading critics of the Common Core, testifying before seven state legislative bodies and traveling to fourteen states to speak against it.
Besides many articles on Common Core, he also wrote The Story-Killers: A Common-Sense Case Against the Common Core.
Aristoi Classical Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school, offering classical education to students in grades K-12. Aristoi is located in historic Katy with a total enrollment of more than 900 students.
The charter plans to open an additional campus in the greater Houston area in 2020.
