FORT BEND COUNTY (Covering Fort Bend News) - Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable Wayne Thompson took to social media Thursday night to end speculation that he would run for Fort Bend County Sheriff. Over the past several months the first term constable has not said if he would run for Sheriff. Now he's made his decision. His social media message is below.
"Family, friends, supporters and constituents - I am formally announcing that I am NOT running for the Office of Sheriff, Fort Bend County.
There has been much speculation, encouragement, and excitement from many of you. In fact, much support has come from both sides of the political aisle. This is a testament that I am able to serve everyone in this role regardless of politics. We have proven that we have worked with both political party leadership to continue to build and expand the duties our office now provides.
I have considered, contemplated, questioned, sought council and prayed about this decision for some time. Although I know that many will be disappointed, I also know I can do more good where I’m at for now. We have changed the face of the Constable’s Office in Fort Bend County and we lead the way and set the standard for others to follow, if they choose.
It has been an absolute honor to serve as your elected official as Constable of Precinct 3. There is a time and place for everything, and now is not my time. I am humbled to have been considered by so many of you equal to the task of Sheriff. I will continue to serve you as your Constable and we will continue to do amazing things. Thank you."
