RICHMOND – Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian M. Middleton has announced that a Hate Crimes Forum will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, hosted by the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Citizen Engagement Committee.

This is a free forum for law enforcement, attorneys, community members, community advocacy organizations and other groups in Fort Bend County. It will be held at Gus George Academy’s Patton Hall, 1521 Eugene Heimann Circle. Check in is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and the event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The District Attorney’s Citizen Engagement Committee was formed to more easily connect the District Attorney’s Office to the public and includes representatives from the both office and the community.

“Communication is key, and as a public servant, I want to encourage the free flow of ideas, concerns, and expectations of the public with the office of the District Attorney,” said Middleton.

Facilitated by the United States Department of Justice Community Relations Service, the forum will include presentations on hate crime laws, the challenge of diversity in the community, and resources for the community in the aftermath of hate crimes.

“I am committed to keeping Fort Bend County safe and being smart on crime,” continued Middleton.  “This forum is part of my promise to utilize best practices to ensure that justice is achieved in our criminal justice system.”
