CINCO RANCH (Covering Katy News) - North Fort Bend County has been rocked by news that dozens of human trafficking arrests were made in Precinct 3 which includes Katy, Fulshear, and the Richmond area. The news has left many people wanting more information on what they can do to recognize when girls are being groomed for human trafficking and prevent it from happening. On Saturday there will be a speed networking event that will likely answer people's questions and introduce them to groups that combat human trafficking.
The hope is that those who attend will volunteer with at least one of the groups that are fighting this growing crime.
The event will be hosted by the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance, the YMCA, and Congressman Pete Olson. It will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monty Ballard YMCA in Cinco Ranch, 22807 Westheimer Pkwy, Katy, TX 77494.
As recently as this month an undercover sting operation in Precinct 3 lead to 47 human trafficking related arrests.
"This complex problem necessitates a joint effort between non-profits, governments, law enforcements, and the general public to eradicate it," said a statement form Congressman Olson's Office. "Busy families often want to help but do not necessarily have the time to research each volunteer opportunity to find which organization would best utilize their skills and have opportunities that fit with their schedules."
On Saturday organizers will host a one stop, speed networking event where potential volunteers can learn about the many ways to volunteer with various organizations combatting trafficking. There will be ideas for women, men, students, and those who can only assist remotely.
Each organization will have a table. The potential volunteers will rotate through the tables at set intervals to learn about each organization.
For those attendees who are new to the issue, there will also be a seminar in an adjacent room teaching about the prevalence and specifics of human trafficking. This training will also give parents guidance on helping their children cultivate a healthy online presence with age appropriate supervision.
