KATY (Covering Katy News)- The Cane Island Parkway expansion is on track to open in a few months. The $4.8 million project will provide relief to traffic congestion on FM 1463.
Covering Katy visited the construction site recently and found that crews were well on their way to opening the route that connects FM 1463 to I-10. Cane Island Parkway already connects I-10 to the Cane Island subdivision. This new roadway will expand the parkway even farther to the south. See photos below.
FM 1463 will have a signal light installed to direct traffic at the southernmost entry point.
The parkway will be built in two phases. Phase 1 will have one southbound lane and one northbound lane. Phase 2 will add an additional lane in each direction.
Phase 1 is expected to be open this summer. The project is being managed by Fort Bend Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers.
Meyers also says Spring Green Boulevard is nearing completion.
“This segment includes the most modern roundabout built anywhere in Fort Bend County at the intersection of Spring Green, Katy Flewellen and Cinco Trace,” Meyers said in an update to constituents.
When it’s complete drivers will have a new and direct north/south connection between FM 1093 up to the Kroger located at the Shops at Katy Reserve at FM 1463.
Meyers believes this project will be completed by Memorial Day if the weather cooperates.
