Child Dies after Accidental Shooting in Fulshear

FULSHEAR (Covering Fort Bend News)  – A 3-year-old boy who accidentially shot himself Friday night has died according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. The injury was reportedly near the eye.

The shooting happened in the 28200 block of South Firethorne Road in the Fulshear area. The boy was taken by Life Flight to the hospital for treatment.

KTRK reported that the boy found a loaded gun on a bedroom dresser after he wandered into another bedroom. The family thought the child was asleep.

Sheriff Troy Nehls said the father panicked after discovering the injured child. The father was reportedly on the first floor with another child at the time the gun went off on the second floor.

“He was so panicked, he said he couldn’t find his cellphone, and ran outside for help,” Sheriff Troy Nehls said. “It was someone driving down the street, who saw him with his son in his arms screaming, who stopped and called 911.”
