KATY (Covering Katy News) – Katy is one step closer to major traffic flow improvements to the Grand Parkway. The feeder road will be extended on the southbound side of Highway 99 from Cinco Ranch Boulevard to Westheimer Parkway and from South Fry Road to FM 1093. Earlier this month, two engineering firms were awarded the contract to design the roads and ramps.
The Texas Department of Transportation also has a plan to widen Texas 99 from the Harris County line to FM 1093, but funding has yet to be approved.
Expansion of the feeder road is the responsibility of the county so that project will move forward as soon as possible, funded by a mobility bond that was approved by Fort Bend County voters in 2017.
The mobility bond will also fund the widening of Gaston Road from Greenbusch Road to Katy Flewellen Road. The project will be 8,200 feet and involves the construction of four concrete lanes.
The county mobility bond will also fund improvements to Crossover Road from FM 1463 to Katy Flewellen Road where a four-lane concrete boulevard will replace a two-lane asphalt road.
Construction on the Gaston Road and Crossover Road projects could begin as early as this summer. Commissioners awarded construction contracts on those projects earlier this month.
