HOUSTON (Covering Katy News) - A tractor-trailer-truck and a fire engine were each struck by vehicles driven by suspected drunk drivers early Wednesday morning along the Katy Freeway westbound near Eldridge Parkway.

At about 1 a.m. the 18-wheeler became disable and pulled into the right shoulder.

"A driver who appears to be intoxicated came along and struck the 18-wheeler," said Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson.

While the driver may have been intoxicated, the driver of the 18-wheeler also failed to pull his trailer completely into the breakdown lane. The tail end of the trailer was in the travel lane when it was struck.

Houston police officers and Houston firefighters responded to the scene and another suspected drunk driver slammed into the back of the fire truck.

"Fortunately all the firemen and officers are ok," Crowson said.

Both drivers failed field sobriety tests and were charged with Driving while intoxicated.  Both had minor injuries.
