RICHMOND (Covering Katy News) - Construction on a roadway that will connect the Westpark Tollway in Fulshear to I-10 in Waller County will begin in the next two months. That's the word from Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Meyers, who has been negotiating with landowners to make the roadway possible.
The Fort Bend County Commissioners Court is advancing $50 million for the construction of what will be called the Texas Heritage Parkway.
Roundabouts, instead of traffic signals, will be utilized at 10 intersections to allow for continuous traffic flow. Wide sidewalks with tunnel crossings at each intersection along with spacious grassy medians will enhance the pedestrian-friendly nature of the project.
When completed it will be a 6.4-mile, 200-foot-wide road with two lanes in each direction. The entrance to the road in Fulshear will be a short distance west of the Cross Creek Ranch main entrance and it will end at Pederson Road in Waller County.
Half the project is being paid for by landowners who will benefit from construction of the roadway. The City of Fulshear is also contributing to the project. Roundabouts, landscaping and a trail system will also be included in the price.
Construction is expected to take about 12 to 18 months.
