KATY, HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – Firefighters from the Harris County Emergency Services District 48 Fire Department saved a house from catching fire after a car in the driveway burst into flames. It happened Wednesday afternoon at about 4:30.

The fire was on Avogadro Drive in a neighborhood off Porter Road.

When crews arrived the car’s engine compartment was burning and the flames were “impinging on the garage door and exterior siding,” said department spokesman Jason Tharp.

Firefighters immediately extinguished the vehicle fire and entered the residence to determine if the house had caught fire. The fire did not spread to the house.

“The tenant and guest (who owned the vehicle) said they were in the house when they smelled smoke. They walked outside to investigate and found that the car was on fire. They called the fire department for help as did numerous other people who saw the fire.

Tharp said there were no injuries.
