KATY (Covering Katy News) – Russell Leach of Katy has earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award. He was recognized in a ceremony on May 5, 2019.

A member of Memorial Lutheran Church Troop 73, Russell is one of only 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle. Leach chose to build orchestra cases for the International Leadership School of Katy.

During Leach’s journey, he also achieved a Gold Palm by completing an additional 10 merit badges in addition to the 21 required to Eagle.

“Troop 73 is proud of Russell’s accomplishments,” said a statement from the organization.
