KATY (Covering Katy News) - Republican Katy businesswoman Angelica Garcia may be new to politics but she's already received the endorsement of Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in her primary race for Texas House District 132, which represents portions of the Katy and Cypress areas.
Garcia is running against Mike Schofield, who was the two-term House District 132 state representative until he was defeated in a very close race by Gina Calanni in 2018. Calanni is running for re-election in the Democratic Party primary.
By backing Garcia in the primary, Gov. Abbott is shunning Schofield, who was a policy adviser to Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
Garcia is a pro-life conservative who promises to strengthen the economy by creating jobs. She also promises to alleviate the "tax burden" on homeowners and protect the border. Her website says she will "bring family-first values back to government" and defend people's right to keep and bear arms.
Garcia says she has "worked hard to achieve the American dream."
In 2009, she launched AIM Global Logistics "with a small life savings and a $500 credit card." Today, she says her companies operate across the Americas.
"Angelica has never let her financial success distract her from what has always been most important — God and family," says a post on her website. "Building a better future for her three children is always at the forefront of Angelica’s mind, and that includes giving back to the community. When Hurricane Harvey hit, Angelica deployed her trucks to deliver donations to those in need," the website says.
With expertise in global transportation, Angelica says border security is important.
"We must secure the border to protect our families and ensure safe commerce," her website says.
Originally from Corpus Christi, Garcia has three children. She earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish from the University of Dallas.
