Doll donation

WEST HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) - The Harris County Precinct 5 Constables Office frequently uses trauma dolls to calm children who are in shock over a traumatic event in the Katy and Cypress areas. A local Kiwanis Club recently helped resupply Precinct 5 with the soft dolls.

"Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Cy-Fair Houston for their donation of trauma dolls for our deputies to carry on patrol," said Constable Ted Heap. "These therapeutic dolls are handmade by our friends at the Kiwanis Club along with Key Club students from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Katy ISD and Tomball ISD high schools."

Constable Ted Heap's Victims Assistance Unit will keep them for their deputies so they'll have them on hand for young children who are exposed to traumatic events, from domestic violence to major car accidents.

In the immediate aftermath of such an event, children can decorate these Kiwanis trauma dolls in their own individual way, allowing them to take their minds off what they've witnessed and providing a better communication avenue if they need to speak with investigators or medical professionals.
