Katy High School

CITY OF KATY (Covering Katy News) - Katy High School was briefly evacuated Tuesday morning because the fire alarm system activated.

"As part of the standard safety procedure, the local fire department, as well as the Katy ISD Police and Maintenance departments responded to assess the situation," wrote principal Rick Hull in a letter to parents.

Katy ISD spokesperson Maria Dipetta said there was no fire.

"Smoke from some welding equipment triggered the fire alarm system," DiPetta said.

"Within a few minutes, we were given the all clear, and all students and staff returned to their classes. Every measure was taken to ensure the safety of your child during this event."
