KATY, HARRIS COUNTY (Covering Katy News) - The Still Smokin Smoke Shop at 21938 Provincial Boulevard was the target of a sting operation on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. The sting was conducted because the school district's police force believed that the shop was selling tobacco and THC products to underage Katy ISD students.
"Surveillance was conducted and confirmed that minor juveniles were entering the store and purchasing tobacco products," said a Katy ISD Police Department statement.
The Katy ISD Police Department and Harris County Sheriff's Office Multi Agency Gang Task Force conducted the operation. According to police, an underage person was sent into the store to purchase products that are for adults only.
"The minor juvenile entered the store and was able to purchase two packs of JUULS tobacco products," the statement said.
Police also detained other underage customers who attempted to flee.
"All the students detained were Katy ISD minor students who had purchased JUULS and other tobacco products from the same employee," the statement said.
The employee who was allegedly selling the products to minors was also detained.
The agent with the Texas Comptroller’s Office conducted an onsite inspection and issued multiple citations for selling tobacco products to minors. Further investigation will be followed up by the State Comptroller’s Office. The Harris County Sheriff Office, Cy Fair ISD, and Spring Branch ISD were also involved in the investigation.
