KATY (Covering Katy News) - The Church of the Holy Apostles has hired a new leader who comes to Katy from Houston. Rev. Alex Large's first Sunday to preach will be July 28.
"We would love to welcome our neighbors in Katy to join us on this exciting Sunday. Our services are 8 a.m and 10:30 a.m.," the church statement said.
You may know COTHA as the Grand Parkway church with the farmer’s market. Members of the congregation say it is much more than that.
"Church of the Holy Apostles is a Biblically faithful community in Katy that connects people to Christ through love in action. COTHA wants to be the example of the church that Jesus described," said a statement from the church.
From a free meal for the community every Wednesday night to mission trips to Uganda and Guatemala, COTHA is a church that values reaching out to help our neighbors while sharing the message of Jesus Christ.
"COTHA is also a family oriented church, and places a huge importance on children and youth and building up the next generation of strong Christians," the church statement said.
Over the past year and half, this church has been in search of a new rector to lead this congregation. A search committee comprised of COTHA members was formed to find the best rector for COTHA.
“We were led by the Holy Spirit. What drove our search was the survey results that our profile committee put together based on the makeup of our congregation," said Roxanne Martin, the Search Committee chair. "We were looking for a person with a relationship with Jesus Christ, the heart of a shepherd, has a passion for family and a collaborative leader with a strong vision.”
The search committee believes Large has a passion for bringing the gospel of grace to the whole church.
“In 13 years of ordained ministry it is clear to me that grace and mercy are needed more than ever in and outside of the church. Work, school, culture, and social media are filled with high expectations and yet little forgiveness,” Large said. "COTHA in particular was clearly a church that was primed to receive and spread the healing message of that Gospel to this generation and the next. COTHA’s passion for families and their outreach to the community drew Alex and his wife in from the minute they heard about the church opening," he added.
Large has led and been involved in all stages of family ministries throughout his career.
“I have a passion for bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to all ages, and to empower the church for God's work of redeeming love in the community, and my wife and I are incredibly excited to begin this journey with you all at COTHA," Large said.
The new church leader is married to Emily and they have 3 daughters. The Larges will be relocating to Katy from the Houston/Meyerland area.
Large has served churches in Colorado and Washington D.C. before moving to his wife’s native state of Texas in 2013 where he served at St. Martins in Houston.
