HEMPSTEAD (Covering Katy News) - A woman from Katy and her unborn child are dead and Texas state troopers are looking for a 37-year-old man from Sealy who they say is responsible.
Angel Aviles-Perez of Sealy is believed to have caused an early morning, multi vehicle fatal hit and run crash. The incident happened at about 2 a.m. last Sunday morning on FM 359, south of FM 3346.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Aviles-Perez, was speeding south on FM 359 and struck the back of a 2001 Buick Century, which was parked on the southbound shoulder because its driver was helping another motorist. The Buick then struck the rear of a 2012 Honda Accord that was also assisting, which then hit the rear of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata that was disabled on the shoulder.
The driver of the Buick was 34-year-old Latrice Frederick of Katy, who died after being taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Frederick and her unborn child were both pronounced dead at the hospital.
Several other people were transported to area hospitals following the crash.
Aviles-Perez took off on foot. He is described as a Hispanic male, about five-feet-six-inches tall. He weighs about 170 pounds.
