KATY (Covering Katy News) - Republican Sheriff Troy Nehls is now in the crowded race to replace retiring Republican Congressman Pete Olson in the United States Congress. Olson made it official in New York City on Fox News, then took a return flight back to Richmond to make the announcement at home on Saturday night.

Felicia Harris, retired Maj. Keli Chevalier, Greg Hill, Howard L. Steele Jr., Joe Walz, and Kathaleen Wall are also running on the Republican side.

Three Democratic candidates have also announced that they are running. Sri Preston Kulkarni, Nyanza Davis Moore, and Derrick Reed are seeking the Democratic nomination.

Kulkarni, a former diplomat who says his mother's side of the family descends from Sam Houston, ran against Olson in 2018 and performed very well.  He narrowly lost to Olson with 46.5% of the vote.
