KATY (Covering Katy News) - Members of the Katy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9182 participated in numerous Veterans Day events recently. The honor guard participated in nine events. 

They appeared at Hutsell Elementary School, the Freedom Park memorial at George Bush Park, Memorial Parkway Elementary School, Cardiff Junior High and the Monty Ballard YMCA. 

Commander Don Byrne visited Parkway Elementary and spoke to the entire school about his service in Korea and Vietnam along with the meaning of Veteran’s Day. He also visited Cardiff Junior High and explained the meaning of Veteran’s Day and talked about the need for more in-depth teaching of American history so that our future leaders learn from past mistakes.

At the Freedom Park ceremony, Byrne was joined by VFW District Chaplain Mike Warren, State Representative Gina Calanni, Larissa Planto of Congressman Mike McCaul's office, Katy Mayor Bill Hastings, and Fort Bend County Pct. 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers. Freedom park is located in the small section of George Bush Park that is in Fort Bend County. The rest of the park is in Houston, Harris County.

A flag retirement ceremony was also held at Post 9182 where Boy Scout Troop 925 participated.
