Houston Police patch

KATY/HOUSTON ETJ (Covering Katy News) - A rollover car wreck that happened along the Katy Freeway near South Fry Road has been identified by the Houston Police.  The crash happened in the City of Houston's extra-territorial jurisdiction on the roadway that connects the I-10 service road to South Fry Road.

The Houston Police Department investigates accidents that happen in Houston's ETJ even though it happened in the Katy area.

On Wednesday afternoon HPD identified the victim as Robert Thomas, 84, of Katy. The accident happened at 7:35 a.m. on August 10. Thomas died two days later.

"Mr. Thomas was driving a black Subaru Forester SUV eastbound at the above address when it appeared he exited the freeway, changed lanes when unsafe, struck dividing barrels at the exit and then the Subaru rolled over," said HPD Sergeant J. Ogden.

Thomas had stated that another unknown vehicle was exiting the freeway at the same time, but the Subaru did not hit the other vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
