WALLER COUNTY (Covering Katy News) – Waller County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Loren Vasquez is identified as the victim of Wednesday night’s fatal patrol car crash. A statement issued by the Sheriff’s office says the crash happened at about 9:30 p.m.

“Vasquez was dispatched to a high priority water rescue call. She was northbound on FM 362 near Hoover Road when her patrol unit became airborne after driving into the water covered roadway,” said the statement from the Sheriff’s Office. “Her patrol unit landed upside down in a water-filled ditch.”

As Covering Katy previously reported, responding deputies were unable to gain access to Deputy Vasquez inside of her vehicle. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress hospital by ambulance. The exact cause of her death is pending the outcome of a report by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Deputy Loren Vasquez was 23 years old and resided in Waller County with her parents and younger brother. She graduated from Royal High School and was also an active member of Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department.

Deputy Vasquez began her law enforcement career with the Waller County Sheriff’s Office on May 21, 2018. She had just completed her 20 week Field Training Program and had been on patrol as a single deputy unit for only three nights at the time of her death.

“The Waller County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your thoughts and prayers during the coming days and weeks,” the statement said. “We also respectfully request that you keep Loren’s family in your hearts during this difficult time. Information regarding funeral arrangements will be announced when finalized. Thank you and God Bless,” the statement also said.
