Houston Boat Show Underway at NRG Center

Covering Katy/Metro

HOUSTON (Covering Katy News) – The 64th Annual Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show (Houston Boat Show), one of the longest running boat shows and the largest indoor boat show in the U.S., is underway at NRG Center.

As the nation’s first major boat show of the year, the Houston Boat Show not only serves as an economic indicator of the year ahead for the boating industry, it also highlights trends, such as a move to environmentally-friendly boating.

Houston Boat Show President Ken Lovell says, “Over the years, boaters themselves have been taking greater steps to protect the environment, such as ensuring the proper disposal of on-board waste and operating the boat in a way that conserves fuel and prevents damage to natural ecosystems.”

Lovell adds that boat manufacturers are meeting the increased demand for an environmentally-conscious boating experience with new technology that reduces fuel consumption and emissions, as well as motors that run on alternative biofuels.

The Houston Boat Show will fill the entire 700,000 square feet of NRG Center with more than 1,000 powerboats, pontoon boats, luxury cruisers, fishing boats, personal watercraft, kayaks, campers, travel trailers and exhibits featuring nearly everything imaginable for the outdoors. The show’s dozens of seminars include expert fishing demonstrations at the giant 5,000-gallon Bass Tub aquarium.

For the first time ever, the largest traveling collection of birds of prey will be at the show. Extreme Raptors features rehabilitated raptors saved from being euthanized at crowded wildlife centers across the country. They now serve as charming ambassadors for their species and the environments they inhabit.  In addition to Extreme Raptors, the Boat Show’s young attendees will love Fish-O-Rama, a longtime Houston Boat Show tradition and the perfect way to catch a fish. Kids can also bungee jump at Radical Indoor Bungee, slide down a massive 24-foot Inflatable Slide, and jump on board Bumper Boats – similar to bumper cars but on water!  On the weekends, children are invited to help Build-A-Boat, an 8-foot wooden dinghy-style boat.
