KATY (Covering Katy News) – The Katy Tigers football team opens its season on the road against Northshore at Galena Park Stadium Thursday night. Getting to the east side of Houston from the City of Katy during the weekday evening commute may deter some people from making the trip, but there is a way you can see the game with your friends if you can’t get to Galena Park.

The Facebook group Katy Train is hosting a watch party at Rudi’s Barbecue on I-10 westbound just east of Mason Road.  The game will be nationally televised (ESPN U) and will be available in the Rudi’s meeting room.

“If you can go to the game go, but if you can’t this is another option to watch the game with your friends,” organizer Robert Willeby said.

Willeby has no idea what the turnout will be but a post on the Katy Train Facebook page shows there is interest.

“Fifty people said they are interested in going so we’ll see (what happens), Willeby said.

The room will be open from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Willeby hopes the game won’t go beyond the 10 p.m. closing time. He said the restaurant was willing make the room and the game available for free so that’s where they’ll hold the first watch party of the season.

Rudi’s is located at 21799 Katy Freeway.
